Yesterday I received delivery (UPS from Connecticut. to California) of my Tyros4! Smile Many thanks to my dealer Frankieve (AudioWorks) for getting it out to me so quickly. Smile

Perhaps its because I upgraded from the 2 generations ago Tyros2, but the moment I turned Tyros4 on and played it 'out of the box', I was very impressed by its awesome sound advancement. As a longtime Yamaha player (going back to PSR2000; Tyros1, Tyros2) I've appreciated the Yamaha Tyros2 sound and had an inkling of the degree of sound improvement I might expect with Tyros4. I wasn't let down. Even out of the box, the overall new sound is both rich and full and has mid-upper range sparkle as well. I especially appreciate the new Tyros4 'concert grand' piano, a noticeable improvement over the grand on Tyros2. As others too have claimed, Tyros4's new drums and built in vocal harmonizer really shine and with many new outstanding voices and styles, I'm very happy with Tyros4, especially because it retains the same ease of OS navigation I've grown so familiar with from previous Tyros models, and supports a huge number of awesome custom styles & voices (sound samples).

My biggest disappointment with Tyros4 are the confirmed bugs that Chony reported earlier. I agree with him that these aren't mere annoyances but critical feature bugs that prevent you from reliably saving styles or utilizing custom voices in styles.

Another thing I've already observed, albeit only on one occasion (so far): while playing songs via Music Finder, suddenly out of nowhere, the RT sound volume dropped in volume about 30%. The only way I was able to get the RT volume back up to normal again was by rebooting the keyboard. Interestingly enough, another Tyros4 owner who has owned his for a month, reported experiencing the exact same thing to me, but after that one incident he never experienced it again. Yamaha really needs to investigate & correct this as this would be disastrous if it happened in the middle of a stage performance. OMG!

These are my first 24 hour impressions so as I continue to explore this keyboard further, I'll post updates. In the meantime, I'm really enjoying Tyros4 a lot and believe it was a substantial upgrade for me, just as long as Yamaha is able to address & correct the above problems. - Scott

The Chony thread points to the same videos I've found on YouTube too.

I hope you haven't bought in a "trojan horse" of bugs. Sad to see that Yamaha seems to line up with the "banana products" - means matures with the customer...

These happenings again confirm my opinion to never trade into something new very early. I got my Tyros 2 also very early and probably it failed because of early HW production issues...

Today's electronics products seem to be so complex to make it impossible to predict or test all hazards - so only way left imho is don't early adopt very new things... Frown

Scott,
So glad you have the T4 in your possesion. Yamaha will take care of the "bugs" sonn I'm sure. In general the Tyros4 is a fantastic instrument and will satisfy our musical taste for some time to come.
I love the new look of the T4. Those sharp corners on the Tyros2 are gone forever (I hope) Lloyd

...sure, green banana gets yellow if it's laying around long enough. Just take care that it doesn't get brown spots too early... Pfft

Don't want the yellow banana to turn black either......

So far mine is still a nice rich yellow and it sounds mighty good. Like t2uses says - buying early is risky for a new keyboard since the manufacturer (all of them in general) will depend upon the customer to find out the little bugs and such. But so far none of that stuff bothers me for just playing music. I have not had any volumes change automatically yet - or that I have noticed. And if a new OS fixes all that stuff then so much the better it will be. Yamaha needs a new OS that automatically turns t2user's T2 into a working T4 or to give him a substantial credit on a trade in for the T4 - then they could go fix his T2 and re-sell it to someone. If my T2 quits working - I will just set it into the corner and use it for an insurance claim if I ever have a fire or get burgularized. Of course, that will be the one the theives don't take. I still have not converted my computer to be able to use Skype or I would get on and visit with Scott and Wolf and the others - I ought to do that if I ever get time. Got to change out the hard drive first to make room for new stuff. Old drive is too full and too old.

Scott, you will probably have a lot of fun making new registrations for your T4 and if you purchased the Pipelinerr registrations you will discover that every one of them work just fine on the T4. Dave has some very good registrations in his set that I purchased and he will probably make a set just for the Tyros 4 and I will purchase that as soon as it hits the front pages.

I believe that by now, Scott has a lot of new music he has created on his Tyros 4.

The Wolf should be adding to this post real soon. Probably is already breathing the factory air that came in the box when the T4 was packed. We are all looking forward to your comments on this new addition to your family.

Wow - just next month or so and I will have had my Tyros-4 for a year. Time sure flies by when you get old. Won't be long and I'll have to will all my stuff to someone who would want it. Many of the new Tyros-4 styles are very good - if you do not have them yet - you should consider some of them.

If you skip lunch everyday for 2 years there should be enough money to purchase the T4 or the T5 Then maybe the sickness will go away and Einstein will come back to life???????

Is your T2 still dead or did you fix it or trade it in on something else?
